It is 51 days since the invasion of Ukraine. It is hard to understand this violence… My heart and prayers go out to all the people of Ukraine. John Lennon wrote this beautiful song 'Imagine' 51 years ago. I made this video, Imagine, as a prayer for peace, and hope for the future. #standwithUkraine

A VISIT TO THE COAST

Ray and I were able to take a day to refresh our souls by a visit to Sonoma County.
What a gift to see our beloved Bodega Bay.

Only light and love remain

I am an artist. It is not something I became…
I just something I always was.
Art has always been a part of me…
who I am,
how I see,
and function in the world.
I am not an artist because I make art,
I am an artist
Because it is my very being,
my soul.
It is my essence,
A way of viewing the world and seeing possibilities.
An inner voice that says
“What if…”
“Maybe if I tried….”
“Oh look, at how those random things go together.”
“I wonder if…”
It is a desire for harmony and beauty in everything.
It is to hear a song that others may not always hear,
And try to follow it to see where it will lead me.
It is to be surprised by the ordinary
And then to understand
there is no ordinary.
And sometimes,
In magical moments,
I experience the sacredness,
Where time stops,
And only light and love remain.

Today, I am in my studio and testing some new paints, lost in a dream world of color and texture where all possibilities exist....

A Delightful, Mysterious Process....

Art comes from everything, and in the process of trying to put down an idea,
many wondrous things can happen, as long as the artist does not give up, remains open
and is willing to push through difficulties and walk into unknown worlds.
It takes courage, perseverance, and sometimes, very hard work.
Above all, it is the decision to create, and allow the creative process to evolve.
At times, it may mean, figuratively, jumping off a cliff without knowing
where the ground is…yes there will be mistakes, but sometimes in magical moments,
amazing things happen that the artist could never have imagined…
It is a delightful, mysterious process.

it is good to be back in the studio...

There have been so many changes the past year including moving out of Sonoma County and re-establishing my studio in Sacramento and so I was not able to do much artwork in the past months.

Thankfully, my studio is up and running now. When I entered the studio and began to get lost in my work, I found my wings again.
My studio is a sacred space for me, where there is no time or space, but only the immense present. In my work I lose myself in a world of color and form.
It is a place where all possibilities begin, if I allow myself to dialogue with dreams, colors, energy, emotions, imagination and perhaps tell a story.
It is a dance between the conscious intellect and structures, with the subconscious dreamer.
Sometimes it is difficult to step out into the unknown, and it takes faith to let the work evolve, but I am reminded of the Picasso quote, “Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.”

When discoveries happen in that wondrous present working moment,
the magic begins, and all possibilities seem within reach.

Below are a few watercolors finished in the past few weeks.

This began as a doodle to test my ink pen,
however I could not resist getting out the
watercolors and beginning to play... and so,
it began.
